Following an amendment to the Turkish Citizenship Law’s Article 12, dated 18.09.2018, new arrangements were made regarding the right of foreign investors to acquire Turkish citi­zenship and the amounts menti­oned in the Article 20 of the Regulation on the Implementation of the afore menti­oned Law. In accordance with those recent changes, foreigners can become Turkish citi­zens once they own property worth at least 250,000 US Dollars, which they must keep for three years.

In 2019, according to official data, foreigners purc­hased 4.6 billion US Dollars worth of properties in Turkey, with a large proportion of these being from Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Russia.
